8 Best Places To Get Customized T-shirts In Nigeria

Written by

At really cheap rates, you can get very good and affordable t-shirts that are printed and customized specifically to your taste. Custom t-shirt designs are incredibly popular in Nigeria thanks to everyone’s innate sense of personality and the need to express it.

That sense of personality is what breeds the idea of wanting to own a tshirt that expresses YOU, and what you believe in. Many people personalize it by printing their names on the t-shirts, or by having one for their birthdays or school graduations.

Besides that; science nerds, fitness addicts, travel hobbyists, etc., all have the feeling that their hobbies and lifestyles need to be expressed, and nothing does that better than what you wear. But it’s not just people with narcissistic tendencies (example, moi) that want their names printed on their clothes, companies are on in the action too, many sought after customized t-shirts to enhance their branding and such. Sometimes though, you just feel strongly for a cause for humanity like ‘saving the ecosystem’ and suddenly want a t-shirt that expresses just that.

Interestingly, in most of the stores listed here you can create your own designs, or tweak, adjust and edit pre-existing designs, this kind of service is called ‘print-on-demand’.

Imagine your name on a t-shirt printed in bold letters with the picture of an elephant riding the back of a pink mule, if that’s you, then by all means, showcase your personality.

So in this very post you will find out all the best stores in Nigeria where you can design and order customized t-shirts for your birthdays, anniversaries, His & Hers, weddings, no-reason-at-all’s, graduation, and school or business brand.

How It Works

Here are the ways in which you can get your custom tshirts in Nigeria. You have 4 options, namely;

Option 1: Design it yourself

The stores are so incredible you can upload your personal designs on their website on a mockup of a t-shirt, customize as much as you want, after which you can then just place an order. Usually the uploads should be in the PNG or JPG image file formats.

You design your own t-shirts, how cool is that?

Option 2: Request a design

Of course if you are not some kind of artist designing it yourself is not an option. So, some of the stores let you request for a personalized design, although it costs more, as you are also paying for design services.

They have graphic designers on call just to do the job for you. You don’t have to worry about a thing, you just give details on how you want it and it will be done.

Option 3: Choose from a template

Some of the stores already have lots of ready-made designs on their website which you can readily choose from. You can tweak and edit as you like. For a school graduation t-shirt for instance, they will leave spaces where you can add your school name and age on the design.

Choosing a template saves you time and money. There are available designs for nerds, weddings, social movements, celebrations, Lagos life and so on.

Option 4: Hire a graphics designer

This option can be cheaper than requesting it directly from the stores. You can easily get a graphics designer from the plethora of available ones if you search online, or one of your friends might be a graphic designer, hire them to design what you want and upload it to the store sites for printing on the t-shirt.

Best Places To Buy Customized T-shirts In Nigeria

Let me point out that this is not a ‘how-to’ guide on starting t-shirt printing business in Nigeria, but rather an all-inclusive guide on all the best online stores you can order your customized t-shirts (and a variety of other goods actually) and have it delivered to your doorstep.

The prices vary but the average cost is mostly N3,500. Which is actually close to what you get from traditional t-shirt printers, if not less. Add delivery to the mix which usually costs around N2,000 (nationwide) and you will come up with a figure around 5-7k for each customized tshirt, although for companies or brands that always need dozens at a time they may get each t-shirt at a much lower price, whereby the delivery cost remains the same.

Without further ado, let’s begin.

1.    Printivo.com

Printivo is the number one place to get customized t-shirts as far as Nigeria is concerned. They are a company based in Lagos and print on a variety of products, from mugs to banners to business cards they do them all. The print-on-demand store has a powerful web tool that allows you to upload your designs and edit/customize it as you like, by adding text, shapes and images. Else you can browse through a delightful collection of their already pre-existing designs made by independent artists.

The tool has the picture mockup of a t-shirt where you can play around with to your hearts content.

Uploaded designs could be added to both the front and back of the tshirt, the front has a size limit of an A4 size paper and the back much less, just a strip where you can add a name. Printivo has an excellent delivery service, your orders could be delivered in 5-7 business days regardless of which state of the country you live in, and if you live within Lagos the delivery is almost free. They have two pickup stations, in Abuja and in Lagos, which costs much cheaper than the usual delivery.

They are particularly very conscious about customer service, providing numbers you can call them up or chat with on WhatsApp.

Another given is that their website is so clean and intuitive, very easy on the eyes and user friendly. Once you are in, you get to choose the item you wish to customize in our case t-shirt. Then you upload your image or artwork on it, edit as you like, select your size and quantity you would like to order, and then add to cart and checkout. It is that simple.

Their foray of existing designs is amusing, you will find lots of Nigerian inspired quotes and graphics on tshirts, the other day I found one that read “Legit Yahoo boi”, I mean, it really is amusing. Unfortunately though they don’t customize Polo t-shirts which I noticed is somewhat principal in this market sphere.

If perhaps you need help with the design or you still did not find what you are looking for, you can request a design from Printivo’s design team, they will surely design what you want.

Printivo likes to connect with you on a personal level, dealing with them doesn’t feel like dealing with corporate entities. Without doubt, Printivo is the best custom t-shirt printing service in Nigeria, they could use with some adjusting of their delivery charges to lean a bit on the cheaper side though, but still there isn’t a match to them, they are worth every penny.

2.    Inklar.com

Of course this list is in no particularly order as to which is best and which is not but I can easily say this, Inklar could be ranking second best. Amongst all the print-on-demand stores in Nigeria, Inklar possesses a creative and very delightful side, the website is easy to navigate and even has a step-by-step guide on how to use their print-on-demand system.

It includes three steps; a) select your choice of product, ranging from t-shirts to sweatshirts,

b) then step two customize the product, you can upload any artwork and add text and clipart, c) and then in step three is to order your custom made t-shirt.

You have varieties of t-shirt types to choose from, their long-sleeve t-shirts look especially delicious. You can choose different tshirt colours, yellow, white, black, blue etc., and to top it all off you can design from your mobile phone.

Their interface is suitable for mobile, you can design on the go, how cool is that? Although you may need a web browser such as chrome or higher installed on your phone. The web tool for customizing the tshirts is pretty straight forward, you can design for both back and front of the tee with a size limit of an A4 for the front where you can design on.

For all this the price is still rather generous at N2,900 per t-shirt (sweatshirts may cost more). With a flat shipping rate of N3,000 there is a seven hundred Naira difference between it and Printivo, with shipping and everything.

Besides using the web tool, you can browse through their range of already existing designs which are mostly just overrated cliparts. They say you can request from them to design for you but it’s not entirely clear if you have to pay for the extra service.

As for the Polo fanatics, yes they do have Polo shirts, . . . (Sheesh!)

It takes about 5+ working days to deliver your product once you order and the company can arrange a discount for you if you have a bulk order. Inklar is obviously new so there is room for improvement but they are crushing it, the current market on customized t-shirts in Nigeria is witnessing a new revolution thanks to startups like these. Innovative and clearly the practical next step into the future of t-shirt printing.

3.    Instantprint.ng

Now, Instantprint.ng, it is the print-on-demand online store to go to for office stationaries and to build your corporate identity, it serves that purpose straight away. You can feel the corporate vibes (if that’s a thing) when you visit their website.

Products such as pens, business cards and flyers overrule the website and there is a button that specifically tend to your company printing needs.  But nonetheless a nice place to order a custom t-shirt (or Polo shirt).

Instantprint.ng would be one of your best bets if you run a company with over a dozen staff, or if you have an office event coming up.

You can upload designs and browse through existing designs and also request for the design to be made especially for you. Apparently they have lots of options (and opinions) for you for the tshirts so it’s best if you speak to them directly before making any purchase, they have provided a phone number on their website.

T-shirts cost anywhere between N1,500 or more or even less, it was difficult to pinpoint which, depends on quantity and quality of product you are ordering. And it feels like the minimum order you can place is nothing less than 10, very hard to say. Currently the part of the website that enables you to upload/browse/and request a design is down. (Please let us know if anything changes).

All in all Instantprint.ng seems like a cheap option, it is representative of the future custom printing in the country but not entirely neglecting traditional printing either. Not to mention their complex delivery pricing that looks like this.

Each region has its price laid out depending on distance, but even the farthest points don’t cost more than N2,000.

Yup, that’s us. The lords presiding over creativity. The Young Emirates store is a platform of creative, intuitive and generally dope designs. So how it works is this: choose a design you want, give us a name you want printed on it, provide delivery address and finally payment. Your order will be on the way in no time.

It has the option for you to go directly to the store and purchase your order, or you can simplify life for yourself and just chat us up @youngemirates on Instagram, so we can place your order for you.

Young Emirates offer screen-printing within Abuja which costs less than the usual N3,500 Naira t-shirt (screenprints cost N3,000). Delivery is within 7 business days and costs N2,800 average.

Although their stash of designs are limited, it is growing in number. Check out the store page, or say Hi over WhatsApp.

6.    Ukreations

Ukreations is a creative custom design startup, for t-shirts, caps, bags, laptops and basically anything on the face of the earth that can be customized. They are a bunch of extremely talented young guys based in Kubwa-Abuja designing and customizing t-shirts.

Their main marketing point is through their Instagram handle @uk_designs360. Their designs or rather more correctly their ‘artwork’ is a thing of beauty, it’s based off of this afro-centric idea, giving it a unique feel and vibe about it.

Ukreations will customize anything from your birthday t-shirts, to anniversary t-shirts to those ‘class of 019’ tees you did love to wear to your graduation. They have done many a designs on those subject matters and are quite the expert craftsmen.

What makes their designs really special is the designs on the t-shirts are hand-drawn, they do still however print (using the screen-printing method) on rare occasions, or combine both, depending on customer needs.

To order a design you have to send a dm via their Instagram handle @uk_designs360 to talk.

7.    Zazzle.com

Zazzle may be the only item on the list that is international but it’s very Nigeria-friendly, and also. . . it is one heck of a print-on-demand store, one of the best in the world even.

You can customize a lot, like a lot a lot. There are so many products the t-shirts category alone has more than 50 different types you can choose from. You got hoodies, plain tees, leggings, long sleeve t-shirts, kids t-shirts, women t-shirts, babies wear, socks, men’s jackets, flip flops and even underwear, underrrr-weeearrrr. All stuff you can customize.

Zazzle's web tool is very powerful and extremely easy to use, suitable for mobile too, the best you can use for mobile in fact. You begin by selecting a product of your choice, which you can then edit, add text, crop, add filters or upload any images to it. You have the option to choose from lots of different t-shirt colours, once satisfied with the design, you can then add to cart, and check out. You should try it out, it’s loads of fun.

As if that isn’t enough, you can personalize any of their literally ‘millions’ of designs on the website. Usually most of the designs have an 'INSERT TEXT HERE' inscription so it wouldn’t be hard to customize.

Also, they provide large print areas for both the front and back, with some of the t-shirts offering an all-over-print on them.

Now to address the elephant in the room, customizing your t-shirts with zazzle.com costs anywhere between $17-$29 Dollars, depending on the tshirt type. That is a little over 10k in Naira if you add the standard shipping fees. For all the perks that they offer, it’s just N3,000 more than the average custom tshirts you did order here in Nigeria.

With Zazzle, you get to express yourself however you want, with infinite room for creativity. According to them, “If you can dream it, we are making the technology to do it.”

8.    Yangah.com

Yangah is a print-on-demand website offering customized tshirts with a spice. Their range of rather interesting yet unique designs have African themes to them, nothing will prepare you for the foray of diverse art populating the website. Very creative in their output and unique in style.

With more than 30 tshirt types to customize, you will surely find something you like. There are apparel for kids, adults, and women, they seem to be have lots of special consideration for women, there are multiple tshirt types to fit women needs and fashion sense, far more numerous than the others, Yayyy for GiRL PowER! . . . . (I suppose).

On their website you can upload any design you want in high-quality colour format. Their prices range from N3,500 to N5,700 for the tshirts and approximately N2,000 for delivery, (varies with location). We are talking roughly about N8,000 for each order.

Yangah's Instagram page is a wonder to behold, which is where they carry out most of their marketing. On their Instagram page @yangahshirts you will find all sorts of colourful merchandise celebrating fathers, mothers, public holidays and birthdays, and some carrying awesome quotes with really interesting graphics to match.

Right from the name you can tell Yangah is all about well, doing yanga, it is Hausa dialect for ‘being sassy'. But the printing startup is anything but Hausa.

5 Advantages of Using Print-on-demand

As we have mentioned earlier, print-on-demand are those online stores where you can create your own designs and upload them for print. Using one of these services is very advantageous, probably because it’s the internet age, and you got to admit, this is very cool.

Anyways here are the reasons why.

1.     Efficient service

These printing services run efficiently, with computers automating more than half of the processes for you, it’s easy to see why.

2.     Consistent quality

There is no compromise on quality. This is not your everyday ordinary run of the mill kind of printing, where what is today is not it tomorrow. These companies in order to keep it real simple for the customer they standardized their products, making them reliable in the long run.

3.     You have total control

It’s a whole printing studio at your finger-tips, you design what you want. You can tweak, create, edit, cut, draw, add, subtract and basically let loose on any tshirt of your choice.

4.     No copyright infringement

As long as you got them for personal use only (i.e., without selling them) you can wear whatever movie or cartoon character you love, if you designed it yourself that is.

No one’s gonna arrest you for wearing Daffy Duck’s Space Jam outfit.

5.     Cheap

Customizing t-shirts would cost a fortune if it were just a few years back. Now you get to what? design whatever you want, fully colored, for a fraction of the price? I think print-on-demand is a serious welcome development.

Conclusion

Quite the list huh?

So anyways, next time you want to customize your t-shirts for any reason, either birthdays, weddings, just for fun, or simply to look awesome, know that you have plenty of options to choose from.

All of the printing companies and startups I chose to be part of this list are specifically handpicked for their intuitive websites, creativity, practicality and overall relevance to Nigerians. All of them do colored printing, and use high quality materials to print. Others exist as well but they don’t have that panache nor express the degree of creativity we have seen thus far, nor do they quite impress. Frankly.

Some are print-on-demand stores like Printivo and Inklar, others somewhat traditional like Tshirtfactory.ng, and some of them like Young Emirates are independent brands that rely on third-party print options to sell their designs, (something a bit like drop shipping).

But all in all, these companies are cheap, reliable, deliver to any part of the country, and are big enough to handle whatever your orders are, from branded school shirts to personal customized pieces, these printing companies are the best anyone could ask for.
